The Memory Book by Howard Engel, a Jewish-Canadian mystery writer. The Memory Book is a mystery story, which is actually his own account of recovering from a massive stroke, basically a story of how a writer rebuilds his brain. A hopeful, inspiring tale.

I've Had Brain Surgery - What's Your Excuse? by Suzy Becker. This book is her personal account of recovery from brain surgery, with cartoons! Again, this is a story of how a creative person rebuilds their brain after a massive trauma. Becker says there is only one previous account, in medical literature, of a doctor's recovery from brain surgery, and it is only 6 pages long. This book looks to expand the horizons of brain surgery literature. It is also a story of lesbian romance, and details the problems with relationships that recovery from a serious illness entails. During this time Becker also does a fellowship at Harvard. "I've Had Brain Surgery - What's Your Excuse" is an eclectic, wide-ranging account of one woman's struggle with a serious illness, and how it affected her life.
