Come on down to the Socrates Cafe, an event at BookPeople! When was the last time you could discuss your thoughts openly and honestly with others? Have you ever questioned society and its assumptions, or your own? Do you like to have a good discussion without fear of being attacked for having an opinion that is different? Then Socrates Cafe is here for you! The time is 6:00pm, and the Cafe will meet every first and third Sunday of the month. Future meetings: June 15th, July 6th, July 20th. Rendezvous in the Park is holding a fundraiser dance Saturday, June 7 featuring Moscow band Off the Leash at the Moose Lodge, located at 210 N. Main, Moscow. Admission is $5 per person. The doors (not the band) open at 7:30pm, and the band (not The Doors) start at 8:30pm.

Linda Fletcher's exhibit "Seven Women Reading, One Man Fishing" will run from June 7-29, with a reception June 7.

The In The Park Summer Reading Series is sponsoring the following events: June 5: Brothers From Different Mothers, a Seattle comedy team. June 12: Dizzy Hips Circus, featuring the national hula hoop champion. June 19: magician Toby Wessel. June 26: Jenks Music, Animals A to Z, musical performances. July 3: Americana Crafts, "Fly a Flag" reading by local author Denali Struble.

The In The Park Concert Series is sponsoring the following musical performances: June 5: The Music of Disney, June 12: Music From Broadway to Hollywood, June 13: ArtWalk, June 19: Swing Devils, June 26: The Classics, July 3: Marches, Americana, and more, July 10: Hog Heaven Band, July 17: Rendezvous in the Park, July 21: Audio Moonshine, July 31: Bare Wires.

Jana Brubaker is running letterpress printing classes starting June 22, with a registration deadline of June 6. The workshops are full-day for five days and are offered in three different subjects: the Postcards class, for inexperienced printers, will run June 23-27, with a registration fee of $250. The Broadside Exchange class, for more experienced printers or those continuing from the beginner class, will run July 21-25, for a fee of $275. The Collaborative Book class, running August 11-15, for a $350 fee, is for writers looking to print their works or for experienced printmakers looking to use some of their own writing in a book. Participants will work together to create a book including their original writing and images with a common theme. The Postcards class will also run on Sundays, for those who work, June 22 and 29, July 13, 20, and 27.

Friends of the Clearwater will be holding a benefit showing on June 23 of Nicolas Barbie's "Last Environment," a movie about the environment shown from a Native American point of view. Admission is $3 and all benefits go to Friends of the Clearwater.

BookPeople of Moscow is sponsoring a free showing of The Golden Compass at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre on June 25, 2008. We will also be holding a costume contest for the best armored bear, or panzerbjorne, from the books or movie.

The Idaho Repertory Theatre will be performing the plays Forever Plaid by Stuart Ross, The Nerd, by Larry Shue, Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and Hate Mail by Bill Corbett and Kira Obolensa, starting on June 26 with Forever Plaid. The Curator's Choice exhibition is a focus on local artists who contribute to the wellspring of creativity here on the Palouse. This year's selection of artists include the individual and collaborative works of Gina Murray and Lousie Colson, along with Nicole Taflinger and George Wray. The exhibition runs until July 18, Tuesday-Saturday, Noon-4 PM on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium in the Fine Arts Center. For more information, call 509-335-1910.

Oldways of Making Books from Raw Materials - June 26th through July 11th. This gets you everything: tool making and sharpening, lessons on fibers hempen and flaxen, traditional hand papermaking and loft-drying, gelatin sizing and burnishing, and making a book with wooden boards and clasps.

The second annual Palouse Artists' Studio Tour will take place Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15 in Moscow, Pullman, Palouse and Uniontown. This is an excellent opportunity to see some artists' work spaces and get a better understand of the artistic process. Artists who want to apply to be a part of the tour can get applications at moscow-arts.org. Bookpeople will also be stop 24 on Moscow Artwalk 2008.

For all Bloomsday participants: On Monday, June 9 there will be a rehearsal and assignment of parts for Bloomsday, so arrive at 6:30 pm and be prepared to stay until 9:30 pm.

It's time once again (in fact, 104th again!) for the Moscow Bloomsday! celebration, now at recurrence number 104. On Monday, June 16 meet at the 1912 Center in Moscow from 6:30-10:30 pm. There will be both rehearsed and impromptu audience readings from James Joyce's Ulysses, which takes place on a single day: June 16, 1904. Anyone named James, Augustine, Joyce, Nora, Barnacle, Stephen, Dedalus, Leopold, Marian, Molly, Tweedy, or Bloom or anyone born or married on June 16th will get FREE BEVERAGES all night. So there's only a couple months left to get down to the Latah County Courthouse and have your name legally changed to Tweedy for those free drinks! Any starving artists out there? Of course there are; all artists are starving. But now there's a chance for all you starving artists to get some free money, in the form of grants from a nonprofit state organization. The Artist Trust/Washington State Arts Commission Fellowship Program is recognizing professional artists of exceptional talent or quality, and giving out $6500 each to 21 Washington artists in the following four disciplines: Emerging Fields and Cross-Disciplinary arts, Performing Arts, Tradition and Folk arts, and Visual Arts. The application is due June 20 and you can get applications at www.artisttrust.org or by mailing a business size, self-addressed, stamped envelope to: 2008 Fellowship Application, Artist Trust, 1835 12th Ave., Seattle, WA 98122.

This Fall, the University of Idaho will be offering Nez Perce Language classes. Ever wanted to learn Nez Perce? Here's your chance! The class is open to all UI students, and both first- and second- year levels are offered. Is it too early to think about that special graduate? Of course not! Give those departing graduates a gift that they will cherish forever - a book! Something, perhaps, that they would like, but not normally buy for themselves; a book of sonnets, perhaps, or a scathing critique of the modern global economy, or some classic detective stories. Or perhaps get them some music, or some movies to enjoy while they're out making their way in the real world. Maybe the Pirates of the Caribbean box set, a perfect gift to break out on those lazy summer afternoons. The Third Annual Writer's Edge conference is being held in downtown Portland, Oregon from July 25-27. Writers will learn about edge, and its application in their writing, through five workshops on writing innovative fiction, two panels, a faculty reading, an open mic, and "myriad conversations about experimental prose."
