Greetings, Readers!
A couple of new things for you this week. We're running
low on events, though, and we need more! Send us anything you'd like posted
in the newsletter, and we'll be happy to help you out.
Also, Christmas lights are going to start going up at
BookPeople! I know, it's a little early, but to be honest I just love the
warm, soothing glow of Christmas lights. Bob was kind enough to sense this,
and got some nice new ones for us to hang up. Thanks Bob!
I hope this missive finds you all well on this chilly
fall night! Good news, BookPeople has a blog now! Check us out on the web at
http://www.myspace.com/bookpeopleofmoscow. This blog is run by BookPerson
Berit, who also has a radio show, Happy to be Alive, which airs Thursdays
from 12-2pm on KRFP 92.5.
Also, now available from BookPeople: Direct-to-Home
special orders! Want to send someone that special something? Want to have it
gift-wrapped and shipped directly from our supplier to their door without
any hassle? Then you've come to the right place! Just let us know, it's dirt
cheap ($3, including gift-wrap!) and we're happy to help you out! If a book
won't do it, we also have Gift Cards, which come in two flavours:
BookPeople's classic and ever popular in-store gift certificate, and Book
Sense Gift Cards which are honored at BookPeople and hundreds of other
independent bookstores nationwide.
Curious about Graphic Novels? I bet you are! Well we've
got just the thing for you! The illustrious Dr. Walter Hesford of the
University of Idaho English Department will be hosting a discussion of
Jewish Themes in Graphic Novels. The event will be on the second floor of
the University of Idaho library. The last session is still free and open to
the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend. The remaining session will
be Thursday, November 29th, 7pm: The Rabbi's Cat by Joann Sfar Again,
everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend, and if you'd like to read the
books, we will have them at BookPeople shortly! For more information,
contact Ben at 885-5858.
The University of Idaho and Washington State University
are both hosting some (very) distinguished visiting writers this fall
semester! The University of Idaho will host Patricia Hampl on November 14th
and Ann Pancake in March of next year. The readings will all be at 7:30pm,
on their respective days, in the University of Idaho Law Building Courtroom.
BookPeople will, of course, be present at all three events with plenty of
books for sale, and we will also have their books for sale in the store
before the events.
What: Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act Panel
Discussion When: Thursday, November 15, 6:30 p.m. Where: 1912 Building
Community Center (412 East Third St.) Moscow, ID The Northern Rockies
Ecosystem Protection Act, introduced into the 110th Congress as HR 1975 this
past Spring, enjoys widespread citizen support and bipartisan sponsorship in
the House of Representatives. The bill had a Congressional hearing October
18, 2007 during which Republicans and Democrats spoke in support of the
bill. Supporters include long time Michigan Republican Representative Dale
Kildee, Nick Rahall (D-WV), chair of the House Natural Resources Committee,
and Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), chair of the subcommittee where the bill resides.
This Thursday's panel discussion will explore how NREPA will provide
protection for resident and anadromous fish species, give details on how the
bill works on the ground in the wild Clearwater country, provide perspective
for pro-Wilderness Christians, and also provide the details for wilderness
protection in the Boulder-White Clouds.
