Wednesday, March 21, Elizabeth Fernea, author of GUESTS OF THE SHIEK, will contribute to WSU's Women's History Month Lectures with "Iraqi Women, Then and Now." Her lecture will begin at 7:00 PM at WSU, CUE 203, with book signing before and after.

Onesimo Hidalgo, co-director of the Center for Economic Research and Social Action (CIEPAC) in Chiapas, Mexico, will present a free talk titled, "Challenges for Mexico in the Post-FAFTA Era: Theory, Law, Reality, and Alternatives," on March 22 at 12:30 PM in the UI Law Courtroom. Hidalgo was trained as a sociologist and has worked with indigenous communities as well as the international community. In addition to his work with CIEPAC, Hidalgo is also involved in the Convergence of Movements of Peoples of the Americas (COMPA), an inter-American support network of civil groups, and works to raise awareness of biotechnology's impact.

The Borah Symposium 2007 is fast approaching! This year's topic is Women, War, and Peace. Three talks will be given: "Empowering Women for Peace", by Mary Robinson (the former president of Ireland) will be April 2nd, at 7:00pm. "The Bougainville Women for Peace and Freedom Movement" will be April 3rd at 7:00pm, and finally "Why do Governments Encourage Women to Support their Wars?" will take place April 4th at 7:00pm. All events are in the University of Idaho SUB Ballroom, and all of the meetings are free and open to the public.
