Greetings, Readers!
The Harry Potter Prerelease Party has come and gone, and
it was a smashing success! Good times were had by all. We have pictures of
the event, which I will be uploading to the internet (final destination to
be determined) for your viewing convenience sometime in the next few days.
I'd just like to give a big shout out to the amazing troupe of volunteers
who assisted us with the party events; there are too many kind and helpful
souls to list here, but rest assured that you all will be remembered for
your parts. It was an amazing event, and everyone had a lot of fun, and we
were all very proud to be involved.
That being said, we've got some other amazing events you
might like to hear about. On to business! Alice Nau, author of the
post-apocalyptic novel "Aftermath" will be at BookPeople this upcoming
Saturday, July 28th. Alice will be reading, signing, and discussing her
novel with her many admirers.
Do you like the Cordelia church? That's probably a silly
question; of course you do! The Friends of the Cordelia are having a special
concert series to raise awareness of this architectural wonder. If you like
good music, you may be interested to know that the next artist playing there
is Hugh Moffatt, who will be playing music from his album "Songs From the
Back of the Church". He will be playing in front of the church this time,
but it still promises to be a good time! For those who are curious about
Hugh Moffatt, here is a link to his website (this will take you directly to
his news item about the show, which includes directions):

more about the Cordelia church, then here is a link to its website:
http://users.moscow.com/elc/Cordelia/ Hugh Moffatt's concert at the
Cordelia will be Sunday, July 29th, at 2:00pm
Also, Cheryl Dudley will be visiting BookPeople on
Saturday, August 4th, from 10:00am until noon. Carol is the author of "The
Legendary Appaloosa", a beautiful tribute to the amazing Appaloosa breed of
horses.
Are you ready for some Chamber Music? More specifically,
the University of Idaho
Auditorium Chamber Music Series, which is starting up in September! The
first show, featuring Trio Solisti, will be Tuesday, September 18th. Trio
Solisti, a violin-cello-piano trio, is renowned nationwide for their
passionate, committed, and adventurous performances. The Washington Post
praises their "zealous abandon in a transcendent performance". Sounds like a
good show to me! more information on the other performances will be
forthcoming as we draw closer to their respective dates.
Finally, Readers, some book reviews! One alert reader
recommends the author Batya Gur, writing "Thanks so much for recommending
this author!!! I am completely hooked on the Michael Ohayon series." Batya
Gur is an Israeli crime novelist whose six award-winning mysteries feature
inspector Michael Ohavon, a detective on the Israeli police force.
I would like to take a moment to recommend "20th Century
Ghosts", by Joe Hill. This is a collection of short stories, some scary,
some macabre, some simply surreal. Hill is the son of Stephen King, another
acclaimed horror author, and looks to be following in his father's footsteps
in the best possible way. Joe Hill is also the author of "Heart-Shaped Box",
pictured below. I would have included a picture of "20th Century Ghosts",
but was tragically prevented from doing so, as the book is not yet
published. It will be available in October, however, so get your orders in
early!
If you have any book reviews or event notifications that
you would like to send us, please do so! We are always happy to hear about
new and exciting things going on around town.
Best Wishes, Readers!
