Buddy Levy's
biography of David "Davy" Crockett is available in paperback. This book
"debunks the tall tales to reveal the fascinating truth of Crockett's
hardscrabble childhood, his near-death experiences, his unlikely rise to
Congress, and the controversial last stand at the Alamo that mythologized
him beyond recognition." Don't miss "American Legend: the Real-Life
Adventures of David Crockett," by WSU professor Buddy Levy.
Support forthcoming greatness: University of Idaho MFA
poetry students Lucas Howell and Joe Wilkins have each published poetry
chapbooks from which they will read on Wednesday, January 24th, at 7:30 PM,
here at BookPeople. In "The Lonesome, Crowded West," Howell draws upon his
upbringing in Tacoma and experiences working and fishing in the Northwest to
craft quiet poems that capture dusk immediately between dark and light, the
still twilight moments in our loud, modern lives. Wilkins, who grew up in
the Bull Mountains of eastern Montana, writes about teaching in the
Mississippi Delta and living in the Northwest in his collection, "Ragged
Point Road." He writes about moments and isolated incidents that perfectly
capture and reflect the broad spectrum of life, from the quietly mournful to
the exuberantly intoxicated. These books are gems and all but necessary
additions to the Northwestern library.
