Welcome to a gorgeous September! Despite the vestiges of
summer tantalizing us to bask in the remaining sunlight (despite the smoke),
we have a great lineup of in-store events. This Friday, September 8th, Alex
Kuo will be here to speak about his new novel, The Panda Diaries, at 8:00
PM. Kuo is visiting BookPeople as part of his Reading to the Wheat tour and
will be traveling to other locations in the Palouse region. Please help us
make him feel welcome. The Panda Diaries is about an ex-secret service agent
with China's National Public Security Bureau whose mailman is a panda. It is
fast-paced on its numerous levels and sure to make a fascinating
presentation. "Alex Kuo's Panda Diaries is a gem of a book. Each word is a
sparse gem of construction, magical and informative. Kuo takes us through
the dreams and nightmares of twentieth century China. The cultural
revolution and its aftermath shape the interventions between the hero and
his Panda mailman, or is it the other way around? Join us to hear Alex Kuo
read Panda Diaries at BookPeople of Moscow, Idaho, the homegrounds for the
traning for Rangers of the Panda Wildlife Area in China. Now, discussing
Panda Politics with the county commissioners was one of the most surreal
minutes I've had as a bookseller, but that's another story." -Bob Greene

experiences in northeastern Montana. Paula Coomer, poet, will join us at
