Greetings, Readers!
What a lovely summer day this is in Moscow.
Enough of those cold nights and lukewarm days. It looks like
we're going to start having a proper summer, now, and I say
"About time!" We've got a few things for you to enjoy, Readers,
so I hope you're ready! First of all, remember that the Farmer's
Market has started! Every Saturday morning, from eight until
noon, you can find hand-picked, hand-made, or home-baked goods,
as well as a variety of entertainment. The Farmer's Market is
located in Friendship Square and the parking lot directly behind
it.
Don't miss this event, Readers - it is truly a
classic Moscow institution. I'm sure I don't need to remind you
again, but just in case. the Latah Trail Foundation is having a
party! This Friday, May 19th, 6:00pm, at the University Inn Best
Western. There will be dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions,
and a whole lot of fun! Ticket prices are downright reasonable,
as well, with $40 for a single or $75 for a couple. Tickets are
available, of course, at Book People of Moscow, so stop by and
pick one up today if you haven't already!
Also, Readers, this upcoming Saturday (the
20th) is your chance to meet Joan Opyr at the Moscow Food Co-Op!
She will be there signing copies of her superb novel "Idaho
Code". If you haven't already picked up your copy, Readers, I
suggest you do so as soon as possible. And if you have, then go
anyway, to meet the author and have your copy signed. Joan Opyr
is a local treasure, and you would be remiss in the extreme to
miss her.
Pure Imagination, with Julie's Jazz and Dance
Pizzazz! A Musical and Dance Spectacle for the Senses! Does that
sound good, Readers? Of course! It's a spectacular event,
inspired by Dahl's classic "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
The event is Saturday, May 20th. The doors open at 6:30pm, and
the show starts at 7. Get your Golden Ticket today, $5 in advance
or $7 at the door. Tickets are available at Book People of
Moscow, or the Moscow Chamber of Commerce, or from Julie Strobel
at 208-596-2820.
Starting May 22nd, the 2006 Curator's
Choice Exhibit will be up at the Washington State University
Museum of Art! It looks like this year's exhibit will, in keeping
with tradition, be excellent. The artists this year are Heidi
Oberheide, James Loney, and Henry Stinson. The exhibit runs until
July 23rd.
Oh, and make sure to register for the Lonely
Planet Cities Game, at Book People of Moscow! We are giving away
a copy of "The Cities Book" by Lonely Planet, and after the
in-store drawing, all entries will be sent to Lonely Planet for a
chance to win a trip to Paris, France! That's all for this week,
Readers! Enjoy the lovely weather and take care!
