Greetings, Readers!
I hope this finds you well and warm on this busy, (slightly) snowy
Thursday. If you are not well or warm, then perhaps I can offer you a new
list of interesting, exciting local events to cheer your heart somewhat. And
if you are already well and warm, then consider this the icing on the
metaphorical cake. We have new and exciting news for you, Readers, as well
as a little bit of information about a classic sci-fi novel that is going to
Hollywood!
All you can eat Pancakes! The American Cancer Society, working with Relay
for Life, wants your help! And they want to feed you pancakes! That sounds
to me like a pretty sweet deal. The event takes place March 4th, 2006, from
8:00am - 12:00pm, at the Nazarene Church in Moscow. The event is a
breakfast/pancake feed, and if you have any questions about it you are quite
welcome to contact a representative at (208)882-6779. I am a great admirer
of this event, Readers, for it is well known that pancakes are nature's
candy, and to eat them for such an honourable cause is surely a good thing!
Do you like Mardi Gras? How about food? Radio Free Moscow? Of course you
do! And, this being the case, the Radio Free Moscow Mardi Gras feast is the
place for you! The event takes place at the Moscow Unitarian Church on 420
2nd st, on March 4th, 2006, from 6:30pm - 9:00pm. This, Readers, begins
shortly after the Moscow Mardi Gras kick-off party ends, and ends just
before the evening celebrations begin. So come and get a good meal before
the festivities, and support KRFP Radio Free Moscow by buying a ticket and
showing up for the party! Tickets are $20, and are available at Book People
of Moscow.
Sunday, March 5th, 2006, at 5:00pm: Harmony -- A Chorus of Wine, Cheese,
and Song. Come celebrate with the Idaho-Washington Concert Chorale and the
Palouse Enological Society while enjoying fine cheese and wine. Proceeds
benefit the Idaho-Washington Concert Chorale, a worthy institution if ever
there was one. This is your chance, Readers, to enjoy wine, eat cheese,
listen to fantastic music, and simultaneously support superb local
musicians! And all of this, for the low price of $25 (or $15 for food only).
Unfortunately, for legal reasons, all people attending the event must be 21
or older. Tickets available at Book People of Moscow.
Joan Opyr, Moscow's own Auntie Establishment, will be in the store
Wednesday, March 8th, at 7:00pm, to read and sign her new book, Idaho Code.
She will also, no doubt, be exceptionally charming and entertaining. I
think, Readers, that if you are interested in a good, fun mystery story,
that Idaho Code might just be for you. But why take my word for it? Check
out the first chapter before you even show up!
http://www.auntie-establishment.com/idaho.html Having already looked it
over, I can guarantee that you will thoroughly enjoy what you read.
Readers, you may be interested to know that there is a large Earth Day
celebration in the works, which will span Moscow and Pullman. The details of
the event are still being finalized, but it will include proclamations by
mayors Glenn Johnson of Pullman and Nancy Chaney of Moscow. Also, there will
be a scavenger hunt and raffle prizes! Keep an eye out for more information
as we have it.
If you are interested in this event, or would like to help sponsor it,
please contact Andy Boyd at
moscowrecycling@turbonet.com, Mark Goddard at
director@palousescience.org, or Cindi Lepper at
Cindi.Lepper@co.whitman.wa.us. Your support, should you decide to lend
it, shall not go unnoticed, Readers! Plans have been made for
pre-celebration publication and acknowledgements at each of the events.
You also may want to make note of the new movie, A Scanner Darkly, that
is set to screen on July 7th, 2006. This movie is based on the Philip K.
Dick book of the same name. A Scanner Darkly is widely regarded as one of
the most genuinely unnerving drug novels ever written. It is a tale of
suburbia run amok on drugs and paranoia, a story of a police investigation
that is not at all what it seems, and it is coming to the big screens in
July. But why wait, when you can read it today? Ask Book People for a copy,
either of the original novel or the new graphic novel edition, and we will
get it for you. We have the books you want!
That's it for this update, Readers. If you have any questions, comments, or
corrections, please feel free to reply to this email. Take care, and have a
good weekend!
