Greetings, Readers!

Some exciting news this week! We've got everything from bike rides to world premieres, and a good deal in between. Also, this week's newsletter features a special treat - an article by guest writer Amanda, the newest member of the Book People family. I hope you enjoy what we've got in store for you, Readers!

First of all, this is your last reminder! Rendezvous in the Park starts this Thursday! Don't miss out - be sure to get your tickets for individual nights online (they are available at www.moscowmusic.com), and come to Book People of Moscow for all of your Rendezvous Button -related needs! Tickets are $15 each per night, or Buttons are available for $32, which will get you into each and every show!

Also Readers, this Saturday is Julie Monroe's booksigning! Now, there was a little confusion last week, and I accidentally asserted that the signing would be the 23rd. On closer examination, it seems that the 23rd is a Sunday, and I made a pretty serious error. So, without further ado, the correct information: Saturday, July 22nd, Julie Monroe will be at Book People of Moscow signing copies of her book Images of America: Latah County. I encourage you to attend, Readers, as it should be a lot of fun!

Friday, August 11th - Paradise Path Bike Ride & Star Gazing Event! The plan for this year is to meet at the Berman Kreekside Park and ride Paradise Path up to the University of Idaho Observatory to watch the meteor showers under the full moon! Everyone who comes will get a free glow-in-the-dark necklace to light their way! For more information, contact Roger Blanchard at 883-7089.

Now Available at Book People of Moscow - Tickets for the WORLD PREMIERE of the film Love Sick. It is showing one night only, Tuesday, August 15th, at 7:00 and 9:00pm. This film has been a long time in the making, and is a genuine labor of love, Readers - I think it would be well worth your time to check it out!

And now, Readers, our featured guest article!

What better a time to travel to then hidden ends of the earth than the lazy days of summer? Even I, a poor college student, found enough resources to visit Seattle, Washington to check out the boutiques and record shops of the University District earlier this summer.

However, for those who wish to travel farther than exotic Washington but need a little help, there are dozens of young writers who dedicate their lives to finding that perfect place to spend those vacation days you've saved up all year long. These writers, unfortunately, have vastly different experiences in your dream vacation spots. In fact, many have websites which detail their travel woes and horror stories (www.letsgo.com features links to several travel-writer blogs).

Sometimes, there are places and experiences that captivate one so thoroughly that they just have to share them with others. Book People, fortunately, supplies many works about just such places. Many of the most popular travel guides and novels can be found on our shelves (and those few that elude you in-store can be easily ordered!).

If you manage to work up the courage and fortitude necessary to leave Moscow, remember not to leave home without that handy travel guide (which would make the poor travel-writers' experiences all in vain!) or even a nice long book to while away the long hours in the airport security line.

Suggested reading:

- The Places Between, by Rory Stewart

- 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, by Patricia Schultz

- Into the Wild, by John Krakauer

- Cross Country: Fifteen Years & 90,000 Miles (et cetera), by Robert Sullivan

- A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail, by Bill Bryson

- And, of course, any of the multitudinous travel guides in the Lonely Planet, Frommers, Fodor, Rick Steeves, Moon Handbooks, Michelin, Nelle's, Unknown City, or Traveller's Companion series (among many others!)

That's all for this time, Readers! Thank you all for reading, and thanks again to Amanda for the article! Take care and think hard!
