Once again BookPeople is sending out a weekly update for you to fill your calendars with local events and fun. We have the perfect gift for the principled purveyor of literary excellence: a rechargeable gift card that can be used here at BookPeople as well as any fine independent bookseller in the nation. We also have calendars for the new year, cards for any occasion, and the assortment of new and used books anyone receiving this newsletter appreciates. So keep us in mind for all your holiday gift-giving needs!

Last week, Paula Coomer began reading her new novel, Dove Creek. The next reading will be December 19 at 8pm. In January, she will continue reading Tuesday nights on the 9th, followed by the 16th and finish up the 17th. Regardless at what point you join in on the story, I think you may find hearing the author's voice will give one a different sense of the story.

The Idaho Washington Concert Chorale presents "Laud to the Nativity" at St. Boniface Church in Uniontown. Get your tickets at BookPeople for the December 15th show at 7:30pm or the December 17th show at 3pm.

On the same holiday note, Festival Dance and Performing Arts present "A Christmas Carol," a story in dance. The event will take place at the University of Idaho Hartung Theater December 15, 16, and 17. Friday's (the 15th) show will begin at 7:30 pm. Saturday (the 16th) there will be two shows one beginning at 2pm and the latter at 7:30pm. The last showing will be Sunday the 17th at 2pm. Tickets are available at Paradise Ridge, Festival Dance Office and at the door.

Palouse Folklore Society presents a Community Dance with live music by John McInturff and Paul Smith. The dance will be Saturday December 16th in the 1912 Building. Instruction begins at 7:30pm and the dance kicks off at 8pm. Admission prices are as follows $4 for newcomers, $5 for PFS members and $7 for non-members. Palouse Land Trust is sending out a general invitation to their annual meeting. Join them in sampling delicious desserts, drinking tasty wines and enjoy the music of Potatohead. The meeting will be Dec. 15th in the 1912 Building at 7pm Last Friday, Ariella Schreck opened her first art show at Above the Rim Gallery. Mosey on down there and check out her talent.

KRFP is in need of a Music director. For more information call 892-9300.

Enjoy "A Night with the Stars" sponsored by Sojourners' Alliance. Get dressed up, walk the red carpet and watch the academy awards. There will be a hearty hors d'oeurvre, cash bar and silent auction. Get your tickets at BookPeople for $45 until Dec. 31. Beginning Jan. 1 they rise to $50.

Calling all creators! In the works is a new general interest journal/ magazine calling itself Gumption.
