Greetings, Readers!
I hope this letter finds you all well. We're writing to you from
(currently) sunny Moscow. Hopefully, it will stay that way. Spring is
coming, Readers! I hope you are as ready for it as we are. Enough of these
short, cold days. There are few things finer than sitting outside, in the
sun, with a good book, and I think we are all looking forward to the days
when this is again possible.
Remember, Readers, that this weekend is the weekend to see A Walk in the
Woods at the Kenworthy! The remaining performances are Friday and Saturday
night at 7:30pm, as well as Saturday afternon at 2:00pm. Tickets are
available at Book People (or at the Kenworthy box office in the hour before
the performance). Don't miss out, Readers! Pick up your ticket today!
Saturday, April 8th - Fred Rabe! Book People! Fred Rabe is the author of
'Exploring High Mountain Lakes in the Rockies'. Saturday, April 8th, from
12:00pm - 2:00pm he will be reading from his book and signing copies, right
here at Book People of Moscow! If you're looking for things to do once
hiking season starts up, Readers, this would be a good place to start. Come
on by and check it out!

"Joy Passanante will lead a free creative writing workshop called "Scenes
From a Life" on Sat. 4/8 from 9:30 am-12:30 p.m. at the
1912 Center in
Moscow as part of Latah County Writes. Participants will
use techniques of personal essay and memoir which will lead to the
completion of well-developed scenes from their lives. To sign up for the

Sunday, April 9th, at 4:00pm, Joy Passanante will be at Book People,
reading and signing copies of her books. Joy Passanante is the author of
three books - My Mother's Lovers (a novel), The Art of Absence (a short
story collection), and Sinning in Italy (a book of poems). She is also very
nice and extremely talented, and it would be well worth your time to come
meet her.
R.T. Smith will be reading at the University of Idaho! The event will
take place Tuesday, April 11th at 7:30pm in room 040 of the Teaching and
Learning Center (The TLC Building - the one attached to the UI Commons
Building). Mr Smith has written a dozen books of poetry as well as a
collection of short stories, and has been widely published. He is also the
editor of SHENANDOAH, a (deservedly) famous literary journal that has
featured countless excellent authors. The reading is free to attend and
everyone is welcome. If anyone would like more information, please call

Also, Readers, this month is Poetry Month! Do you know what that means?
Well, aside from the obvious, you should know that Book People is having a
contest! With prizes! Come in, find one of the Poetry Month posters, and
figure out in which books the poems quoted first appeared. Then, write down
your answers an give them to an employee, and we'll do the rest!

Alert Reader Betsy sent us the following: "Mark your calendar for a magic
hour! Children walk through the orchestra and get a close-up peek at the
instruments and talk to the musicians! Come to the Washington Idaho
Symphony's annual FREE Family Concert on April 15. "MUSIC TELLS A STORY" is
this year's theme and the orchestra will play music from "Lord of the Rings"
and Ravel's "Mother Goose Suite." The Palouse concert will be at 1pm at
Gladish Auditorium, Pullman, and the same program will be performed in
Lewiston at 10am in the High School Auditorium. The Family Concert is
sponsored by the Ann Berni Foundation and Potlatch Corporation, which permit
everyone free admission. " Thanks Betsy!
April 18th, 2006 marks the 32nd Edward R. Murrow Symposium! At 7:30 pm,
April 18th, in the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum on the Washington State
University Campus, Tom Brokaw will be presented with the Edward R. Murrow
Award for Lifetime Achievement in Broadcasting. After the presentation,
Brokaw will address the audience. The event is free and open to all.
Also on April 18th, a reading by Gary Gildner! Gildner will read at 7:30
at the Museum of Art Gallery in the Fine Arts Center on the Washington State
University campus. Books and refreshments will be available after the

Gildner has published twenty books and won numerous literary awards.
Finally, Readers, we thought that you might like to know that Christopher
Buckley, renowned poet, will be reading on Wednesday, April 19th. The
reading will be at the Law School Courtroom at the University of Idaho. For
